The Chinese Nursery Rhymes are one of most famous traditions that have been passed down from generations to generations.  Like most nursery rhymes in any other cultures, the Chinese Nursery Rhymes are composed of traditional songs or poems that are taught to young children to encourage and help them to develop their vocabularies and many other early development skills.

2. Hundred Family Surnames (3 Volumes)

The hundred Chinese Last Names originated from a classic list that was compiled by the order of a Chinese Emperor in the Song dynasty.  The list originally contained 411 common ancient surnames arranged in rhyming 8 characters lines. Since then, these names have expanded to about 800 names and are used by the 90% of the Chinese population in the world today.  Like many cultures, Chinese last names are passed down from generations to generations.  Children would bear the surnames of their fathers and women would adopt the last names of their husbands once they get married. The Chinese surnames are significant and are often seen as a representation of a family’s pride in its history.

3. Three Character Classic (3 Volumes)

The Three-Character Classic is composed of classic Chinese literatures that were written during the 13th century Song dynasty.  These texts are credited to the two well known scholars of its time Wang Ying-Lin and Ou Shi-Zi.  The Three Character Classic reflects the popular Confucian teachings and was often used to formally educate young children.  The composition of these literatures is a short three-character per line patter for easy memorization and through these texts, people learned and adopted vocabularies, grammars, historical accounts, and Confucian ideals and moralities that are important during that period of Chinese history.

5. Counting ( 2 Volumes) and Unit Measures (1 Volume)

The Chinese and the Western number systems are very similar, yet there are a few difference in format and “measure words.” Once you learn the basic numbers from one to ten, you can literally count up to almost one hundred. In the Chinese culture, children are often taught to use their fingers and the abacus to help them learn to count. The Chinese numeral system is fairly easy and straightforward. Learning how to count will be a very useful resource to students who are learning the Chinese Language and Culture.
